OSI Food Solutions humble beginning began in 1909 when a German immigrant named Otto Koischowsky opened a family meat market in Illinois two years after his arrival in the United States. Otto expanded the company into the wholesale meat trade in 1917. They officially became known as Otto & Sons in 1928. Otto & Sons established a reputation for offering quality meats and became the ground beef patty supplier for the first McDonalds in 1955. In 1975, the name was changed to OSI Industries.

OSI Food Solutions has grown into one of the largest meat processors servicing the retail and food service industries, with 65 facilities worldwide and employing over 20,000 people. Products include meat patties, bacon, hot dogs, fish, poultry, and more.

In 2016, OSI Food Solutions UK was one of only 18 companies worldwide presented with the Globe of Honour. This award is given to organizations who have achieved excellence in environmental management. OSI strives to provide the best possible product and of top quality, so it is no surprise that they are well known for their demanding and high standards from their food vendors. In response to the growing demand for chicken products in Spain, OSI Food Solutions Spain added a high capacity production line in 2017 that has increased its processed chicken production capacity from 12,000 tons to 24,000 tons per year. This expansion will allow for the addition of new products, more jobs, and the new equipment has already reduced electricity consumption by 20%.

OSI is constantly growing and evolving. OSI recently acquired the 60-year old Dutch company Baho Food, a manufacturer of convenience foods, deli meats, and snacks. They also acquired the Flagship Europe which supplies the UK foodservice market, and also purchased the former Tyson food plant in Chicago, Illinois, saving most of its 480 jobs. OSI Group McDonalds COO David McDonald

The OSI Group was born and bred from the deep German tradition of efficiency and trustworthiness in quality, the American tradition of expansionism and protection, and the global traditions of family values for all. Perhaps in an effort to not seem as “mom-and-pop” as they did with the name Otto and Sons, the group formally renamed themselves OSI Group McDonalds as soon as they hired a CEO in 1975 who was already familiar with navigating the waters of running a global organization. Sheldon Lavin was his name, and he still runs OSI Group McDonalds to this very day alongside COO David McDonald.

David is an enigma in is own right, as well, having graduated with an agricultural sciences degree from Iowa State, having six kids and a wife of his own, and figuring out the incredibly foreign laws and regulations surrounding not one but seventeen other countries across the world. He is a friendly person and believes in the power of family, stating that, “It is important to note that, within OSI, we value family. Our people and our customers are viewed as family. OSI Industries Is Changing The Food Industry For The Better
