DJ Duo The Chainsmokers Are Now Diamond Certified

At this point it’s impossible to deny the popularity of New York DJs Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart, the Chainsmokers. Every single release is treated like an event, and some songs never seem to fade from public attention. That’s become even more evident now that “Closer,” one of their first mainstream successes featuring pop star Hasley, has reached diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

It was an instant hit when it debuted late in the summer of 2016. “Closer” immediately found a home at the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 and was untouchable for quite some time. Over on the Dance and Electronic chart, the single’s popularity lasted even longer, ending just a few months ago. On top of maintaining these spots for more than a dozen times, becoming the fourth longest top single in history, “Closer” managed to sell 10 million units since its debut.

In addition to being a commercial success, it was also a milestone for the Chainsmokers. This level of playability across charts meant that they were able to break free from the EDM crowd, where many music acts premiere and fizzle out before long. This duo had mainstream appeal, and with “Closer” they gave Hasley the opportunity she needed to shine through as a pop music act with a long future ahead of her. This was further supported by the Grammy nominations that followed in 2017 for all three artists on the song.

While Twenty One Pilots currently top the Hot 100 with “Stressed Out” and “the Middle” is now ahead on Dance and Electronic, “Closer” is still a hit with fans. So it was only appropriate that they should be first in hearing the good news. Instagram followers got to see Hasley and the Chainsmokers pose with their official plaques and read the announcement about “Closer’s” recognized popularity.

This is the first time this single has been in the news since last year when the RIAA awarded the song its seventh platinum honor. With the delivery of these plaques, “Closer” is now in a more coveted status than ever before. But the RIAA has yet to reflect this latest development on their official website.

Getting Closer to Alex Pall of the Chainsmokers

Following the release of the Chainsmokers song “Closer” there was a need to find out more of this dynamic duo. This track was unique in it’s release because it was their first track that featured Andrew Taggart, one half of the duo, as a lead singer. The decision to sing on this track was part of the duo’s plan to evolve their sound to a constantly changing audience. Interview Magazine’s Mathias Rosenzweig sat down with Alex Pall, the second half, shortly after the song’s release to gain insight on the groups history and plans.

Alex and Andrew had been a match made in heaven from the very beginning. They met while both pursuing DJ and producing careers and they had similar goals, creative ideas, and work ethic. Even a few years after their initial success, Alex Pall has been quoted saying “it’s constantly a journey of self-discovery and checking yourself, and we kind of always questioned those things.” The duo is regularly questioning their creative decisions to make sure all are true to their identity.

The decision to sing on their own track was a very unique decision, especially for an electronic group. When asked about it by Mathias, Alex expresses that both he and Andrew had a strong desire to be more a part of their own music. The norm as of now is that electronic artists produce tracks, song-writers write the lyrics, and generally a well known singer will sing them. They wanted to change that. Unlike many other electronic artists they wanted to produce one cohesive album rather than a few bangin’ tracks.

The decision to work collaboratively with Halsey on “Closer” was an easy decision for them. In the interview, Alex Pall said that the group admires her strong voice and individuality. After the release of this song, Alex Pall said he felt the groups identity was solidifying more than ever. The Chainsmokers were reaching music listeners from all over the world, and of all ages and genders. The duo is excited to see where their new-found reach will take them.

Exploring The Myeongdong District Of Seoul, South Korea, With Kim Dao

The Myeongdong shopping district in Seoul, South Korea is explored by fashion and lifestyle vlogger Kim Dao and one of her friends in a video from January 2017.

After an introductory greeting from Kim Dao, the camera shifts to the bustling streets of Myeongdong. Rows of brightly colored small storefronts line the narrow streets, and lots of people are walking around. Learn more: https://ideamensch.com/kim-dao/

It’s fascinating to see that many of the businesses in Myeongdong operate both indoors and outdoors. Dozens of pairs of shoes are attractively arranged at one business space, while businesses across the tiny street feature displays of handbags, and formal clothing.

The signage on the storefronts in Myeongdong contains a mixture of Korean and English wording, and Kim Dao points out a cafe that is dedicated to the Hello Kitty character. Amid all of the modern storefronts, and fast-paced crowd of shoppers, there are small spaces occupied by individual men and women who are tending to steaming pots of foods that are for sale. After enjoying a nice meal that was cooked tableside, Kim Dao and her friend take in more of the sights in Myeongdong, before heading into a large American-based retail clothing store. The young women shop for a while, then venture back out into the crowds of people who are present in the neighborhood. Learn more: https://www.facebook.com/KimDaoOfficial/

This video ends with Kim Dao back at home, trying out some new skin care products that she purchased in Myeongdong. Like always, Kim thanks her viewers for watching her videos. Learn more: http://inspirery.com/kim-dao/
